Narrative
|
A couple's relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.
|
Unique Selling Point
|
Big
name actors are starring in the film ‘Jennifer
Lawrence’ who is one of the highest grossing actresses in the current
market. This will increase the likelihood of sales for the film.
The
Trailer was fast paced which would appeal to a variety of different people
and will also gather a very large crowd.
For
Robbie Collin, film critic for the telegraph offered the views for the films
USP, stating that ‘Hollywood needs mavericks not franchises.’
The
film however divided audiences, as it seemed to be a grotesque funhouse
reflection of a planet in crisis.
Aranofski
says ‘the best thing about this film will be the surprise of it. Its an
intense journey, defiantly the biggest roller coaster in the park.

Target audience
|
The target audience for this film is 16-35 year olds of both genders. I feel as though this is the correct target audience as there are no distinct gender themes in the film. It is clearly suitable for both genders to watch and enjoy.
|
Music
|
Eerie
music, creating a thrilling/ tense atmosphere, music using strings such as
violin and cello.
Music
is composed by an Icelandic composer who is named Johan Johansson
I feel as though some music throughout the trailer sounds bit out of place, about halfway through the trailer the music genre sounds like jungle, however works well with the credits and intertitles. |
Shot types/camera angles
|
Various
extreme close ups including reaction shots, in order to show the petrified
emotions the protagonist is feeling.
High
angle shots looking down the staircase and when 100’s of people are walking
on the lawn with flashlights.
Blood
on the floor is a point of view shot
Low
angle shot of the husband emphasizing the terror the wife is currently under
due to his actions.
|
Pace
|
The
trailers editing was descried as violently chaotic
|
Dialogue
|
|
Voiceover
|
The
function of the voice over is to identify with characters vulnerable
universe. This therefore allows the audience to sympathise with the
protagonist which positions the audience as victims as well.
There
was a voiceover at the beginning of the trailer in the form of dialogue; this
is spoken through the protagonist Jennifer Lawrence.
|
Special effects
|
Light
blub dripping blood and exploding
Furniture
and the walls age in front of eyes, and looks to corrode and rot, this is
created using CGI.
The
wall depresses and falls back on itself.
|
Credits and intertitles
|
Credits and inter titles I feel match the genre of the film as the font is very unique and is commonly associated with horror/ thriller.
